Whistleblower/Qui Tam
The False Claims Act is a federal statute that allows whistleblowers (called “relators”) to file a lawsuit on behalf of the United States government when it is being defrauded. The Department of Justice may choose to join in the lawsuit, and the United States can recover triple the amount of its actual damages, as well as financial civil penalties. The relator may receive a reward of up to 30%.
